Challenging Times<\/h2>\n
The\u00a0Healthy Environment Group had a very intense and challenging\u00a0time!
<\/span>
We\u00a0were given the opportunity to speak at a council meeting earlier this year. And\u00a0because our subject was considered so important, we were allowed to speak for\u00a0double the usual time. So off we went inspired and passionate to write our\u00a0speech. Please read it on our web site here<\/a>. We informed the council of new\u00a0evidence of health dangers,when exposed to herbicides and pesticides and\u00a0requested a register for chemical sensitive people and asked for notification\u00a0and warning signage for a period of 2 weeks after a public area has been sprayed\u00a0with herbicides.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After\u00a0weeks of waiting for council’s response and with growing concern for our\u00a0community as it continued to be unprotected and without choice of being exposed\u00a0to pesticides, we requested an urgent\u00a0answer.

The answer came.\u00a0Nothing will be done about it. Our effort and research wiped off the table. But
Council offers to work with individual members of the community on a case by case basis and if you as a member of the\u00a0public feel you would like to be notified when council is spraying, please\u00a0contact our CEO directly.

But,\u00a0dear reader, don’t be disheartened.\u00a0
<\/span>
Just\u00a0a few days ago our group was contacted by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). We are\u00a0asked to support their\u201dDeclaration for safer Australian pesticide laws\u201d. They have, quote,\u00a0\u201dserious concerns about the way pesticides are regulated in Australia and the\u00a0implications for farmers\u2019 health and freshwater and marine environments.\u201d And at\u00a0the last federal election they have secured a commitment for important reforms
to better protect human health and the environment from pesticides and to catch\u00a0Australia up to significant regulatory changes that have already taken place in\u00a0Europe, the United States and Canada.\u00a0

Change will happen!\u00a0We will keep going.\u00a0<\/p>\n
