Roundup<\/span><\/h2>\n
Myth<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
\nRoundup is Safe, Biodegradable and Environmentally friendly.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Facts<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
\nMonsanto has been sued successfully in 1996 and 2001 by France (1)<\/a> (2)<\/a>\u00a0and New York State Attorney General (3)<\/a>\u00a0for misleading consumers by claiming that Roundup is biodegradable and environmentally friendly.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The 1990\u2019s saw Genetically Modified (GM) foods, as Monsanto had to find a solution to its ever increasing problem of farmers losing vegetables and grains, production dropping\u00a0 significantly from needing to spray increasing amounts of Roundup due to disease and super weeds now taking over their farms <\/span>(4)<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Increased use of Roundup with genetically modified foods means sprayers can aerial spray twice or three times the amount, and residues are left on foods that we eat, namely canola, corn products, wheat etc.\u00a0 Spraying is generally carried out with little regard to the surrounding community.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Independent scientific studies have shown Roundup is toxic to earthworms, beneficial insects, birds and mammals, plus it destroys the vegetation on which they depend for food and shelter. Roundup has been found to be extremely persistent, with residue absorbed by subsequent crops and found over a year after application. Roundup shows adverse effects in toxicological testing, genetic damage, effects on reproduction and carcinogenicity (5)<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Developing foetuses, babies and children are far more vulnerable to the impacts of Roundup exposure than adults, because they are less able to detoxify this harmful chemical effectively.\u00a0 <\/span>Children are exposed to Roundup at local playgrounds, which are sprayed at regular intervals by the council.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The impact of Roundup on soils, insects, animals and plant life destroys the delicate balance of the natural biodiversity.\u00a0 <\/span>Landscapes that do not use Roundup, require less fossil fuel (slowing climate change) require less water, foster biodiversity and increase the health and ecological resilience of the landscape.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Roundup is far from safe. It is a proven health hazard. It contributes to the climate problems we have today, destroys our environment and, costs so much each year for farmers, councils (9 Million litres are uses annually around the world!). Importing the product has\u00a0 <\/span>an impact on carbon miles.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So \u2013 now that you don\u2019t want to use Roundup any more- what’s the alternative?!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
